Homemade Sugar Scrub For Face and Body

Keep this Homemade Body Scrub Recipe on hand for those last minutes holiday gifts. Or make a batch to pamper yourself with a spa night at home!

The sugar and oils are great for hydrating and exfoliating the skin. While the lavender adds a calming scent and makes this homemade scrub extra pretty.

I love homemade scrubs, lotions and other beauty products.

I used salt in my last Scrub Recipe, so I decided to make a sugar scrub this time. I have tons of lavender left over from my Lavender Field Adventureearlier this year. The lavender adds a lovely floral fragrance and makes this scrub super luxurious.

Making scrubs at home couldn’t be more simple. Mix the oil and sugar together, add any fragrances and you’re done! Usually you mix the sugar:oil at a 2:1 ratio. I used slightly less oil in this recipe but feel free to add an extra tablespoon of oil if you prefer.

I used some culinary lavender that I bought at the Mt. Shasta Lavender Farms. If you’re not lucky enough to have lavender growing in your backyard, you can Order It OnlineLavender Sugar Homemade Body Scrub Recipe - WonkyWonderful (4) or check your natural/health grocery store. Just make sure you are using lavender that hasn’t been doused in chemicals or pesticides.

Lavender Sugar Scrub

Yield: 1

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 5 minutes

With a simple blend of oil, sugar and lavender, this Homemade Body Scrub Recipe is perfect for inexpensive gifts.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup White Sugar
  • 1 Tb Unrefined Coconut Oil, liquid state
  • 2 Tb Grape Seed Oil
  • 1 tsp Dried Lavender
  • 5-10 Drops Lavender Essential Oil, optional

Instructions

  1. Mix the sugar and oils together with a fork or spoon.
  2. Add the lavender flowers and gently mix.
  3. Transfer mixture to Glass Jar.
  4. Sprinkle a few more lavender flowers on top and drizzle with a small amount of grapeseed oil.

Notes

I used grapeseed oil because it does not have an odor. Other liquid oils can be used, just keep in mind the aroma of the oil you decide to use.

Fill a jar with your homemade sugar scrub, add ribbon and a tag. That’s it, you have an inexpensive homemade gift that your family and friends are sure to love.

Just be very careful if using this scrub while in the shower. Nobody want to be slip-sliding around in the tub! Yes, I’m a worrier.

Does this go bad? Thinking of it s a gift, and if it goes rancid after a certain number of days/weeks, then I need to factor that into the preparation. Also, can i use lavender oil instead of fresh?

Hi Amy! I have had my sugar scrub sitting around for several months without any issues. As long as it is kept in a sealed, clean container it will last for several months … and probably longer. Regarding the lavender oil, I’ve seen lotions and scrubs that do use the oil instead of dried lavender. Just make sure the oil you use is safe for using on on the skin. Good Luck 😀

Wow, I had no idea it was so easy to make a body scrub (not like I have much experience in that area anyway, though). This could be a really nice idea for DIY holiday gifts!

This looks wonderful! I was just curious if another type of oil could be used in place of the coconut? My son is allergic, and although he wouldn’t be using it, if he touches my skin he can have reactions. Olive oil? Thanks so much 🙂

I was wondering, what kind of sugar do you use, or salt for that matter? The ones I have used before had rather large crystals.

Hi Maria!I usually use plain white sugar or sea salt. You can use the finer grain or larger. Whatever works best for you 🙂

Do you need to use grapeseed oil? Is okay to just use coconut oil? Also, I have a lavender plant at home. Would I need to prepare it at all, or could I just pick the flowers and add them in?

    • Lavender Sugar Homemade Body Scrub Recipe - WonkyWonderful (28)Nicole Harris says

Hi KD! Yes, you can use a different oil if you prefer. I think you could use your own lavender as long as there are no pesticides on it. You may want to pick some and let it dry. I’m not sure how fresh lavender would do in a scrub.

Hi Francine! Yes, the coconut oil does harden when it is cold. I store my scrub in a glass jar and just run it under warm water before I need to use it.

Yes, of course. It will just be thicker due to the coconut oil.

    Hi Nicole!

The pictures look like the grains of sugar are larger than what I normally find st the store.

Specifically, what type of sugar or brand do you use. I would like larger grains for my scrubs.

    thanks so much.

    love you article.
